Our mission

Our mission

Our mission is to glorify God by making mature disciples of Jesus.

Discovery Church exists to glorify God by making mature disciples of Jesus (Colossians 1:28-29). We believe we will accomplish this mission by:

  • Proclaiming the gospel – The good news is that God sent his Son to save sinners, and this message is our life and joy. We strive to do all we can to center our church on the gospel.
  • Preaching the bible – The bible is our treasure and our authority for what we believe and how we live. Our aim is to build our church on the truthfulness and trustworthiness of the bible.
  • Teaching one another to obey all Jesus commands – In Matthew 28:19-20 Jesus tells his first followers to go and make disciples of all nations and to “teach them to obey all I have commanded you.” A disciple is a follower of Jesus who obeys all the Savior commands, and therefore we call one another to grow in our obedience to what God has told us to do.

The mission to make disciples is accomplished in and through the church. God uses his churches all over the world to build his Kingdom.  These churches know what they believe and are structured in order to accomplish their God-given mission.

Our church is an elder-led congregation. This is at the heart of how we accomplish our mission. We are led by elders, who have a God-given authority and responsibility to teach/preach the bible and oversee the life of the church. Our elders spend time in the bible and in prayer, seeking God’s direction for our church. Our members follow, support and submit to the elders God has placed in the church.

While we are elder-led, our members have a God-given authority to take responsibility for church matters.  Members are responsible to disciple one another, to maintain the integrity and unity of our church, and to help us accomplish our mission.
